Engineering Lyceum of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University is a public school implementing two educational programs simultaneously: general and engineering. A program coordinator for implementation of engineering education was appointed by the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
The Lyceum is an active community which constantly implements national and international projects (Erasmus+, NordPlus, etc.). Students and teachers have a rather intensive communication and collaboration with partner schools from Europe. Quite a long and strong experience in running and implementing the projects confirms the importance and value of teaching and learning beyond the classroom.
With the help of Vilnius University Confucius Institute the first Confucius Classroom in Lithuania was opened in our school. Our students are provided with an exceptional opportunity to learn the Chinese language and deepen their knowledge in Chinese culture from native Chinese teachers volunteers.
The school is also a member of the PASCH schools network, thus students have an opportunity to do DSD German language exam. Lyceum cooperates and actively works with the social partners such as Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Geothe Institute, Vilnius University, Robotics Academy, Robotics School, etc. Cooperating with the social partners, pursuing a higher quality of education, creativity and a wider variety of ways of self-expression needs the school community is constantly evolving. The community studies and disseminates good practice by cooperating.
At our school, students start learning Engineering in the 1st grade, and in year 9 they begin to study Design. Engineering framework program is integrated in the lessons of all subjects. 15-19 year old students go to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, where they perform a variety of Physics, Biology, Chemistry Laboratory work, working together with university students and professors. There is a strong ICT base at our school, the computer equipment and modern technologies are being updated each year. In lessons and after school activities students use a variety of innovative tools and smart technologies for education (SMART boards, interactives screens, micro:bit computers, Arduino, Lego robots, iMO cubes, 3D Design and Printing, Tinkercad, Solidworks, Blender, AutoCAD, Scratch, etc.).
STEAM Centre was established to ensure effective and creative formal and non-formal education. STEAM Centre includes such innovative teaching and learning areas as FabLab, Multifunctional Centre of Engineering, Design and Construction, GEMS room (Girls in Engineering, Maths and Science), 3 laboratories of Science, Physics, and Life Sciences. In 2019, Lyceum became a member of the European STEM School Network and the STEM school ambassador in Lithuania. The learning process is based on STEAM model which ensures effectiveness of the integrated education qualifying students’ skills not only in science, but also in creativity.
