The headquarters and largest campus is in Tromsø, and additional campuses are located in Alta, Harstad, and Narvik, and we have a presence in Svalbard. We are the fifth-largest university in Norway, hosting approximately 16,000 students and 3,400 employees. The university comprises seven faculties covering Health Sciences, Science and Technology, Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics, Law, Humanities, and Fine Arts. About 11% of the student body and 20% of academic staff are non-Norwegian. One-third of its master's programs are taught in English. Like all Norwegian public institutions, there are no tuition fees for students.

The university plays a crucial role in addressing local and global challenges through its strategic focus on research excellence, talent development, and educational innovation. As a multi-campus institution, UiT fosters collaboration across disciplines and with international partners. It offers a wide range of educational programs, including pioneering initiatives such as an online MSc program in green transition for business leaders and specialized MSc and PhD programs in sustainability sciences and ocean leadership. UiT also integrates cutting-edge research into its teaching, ensuring a robust knowledge transfer to students and stakeholders. UiT is a leader in research areas like big data, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and sustainability science.

With centers such as the Arctic Sustainability Lab and the Centre for Teaching, Learning & Technology, the university emphasizes both academic rigor and societal relevance. It has successfully coordinated several EU-funded projects, including Erasmus+ initiatives, demonstrating its ability to lead and contribute to international knowledge-sharing and innovation. Through its dedication to education, research, and engagement with societal challenges, UiT actively supports the blue and green economy, sustainable development, and the advancement of knowledge in Arctic and global contexts. The university remains committed to being a bridge between academia, industry, and society, fostering partnerships that inspire and empower future generations.
